PROGRAM: Dunkirk / Sheridan Empire Zone (DSEZ)
Description of Program/Service Provided:
Intended to stimulate economic growth in a specific
geographic area through a variety of financial incentives, which are
designed to attract new businesses and to enable existing businesses to
expand and create more jobs.
Financial incentives include wage/investment tax credits
and reduced-rate utilities.
Low-interest loans will also be available for Zone
Certified Businesses through the Statewide Zone Capital Corporation.
History:
On June 3, 1998, two square miles encompassing parts of
the City of Dunkirk, the Town of Dunkirk, and the Town of Sheridan were
designated as a New York State Economic Development Zone.
In 2002, the part of the communities of Fredonia,
Hancock, and Silver Creek were also included within the zone boundaries.
The Empire Zone is one of 71 zones in New York State
designed to promote economic development in distressed areas.
